| INFLATION FALLS TO LOWEST SINCE 2004 |

Recent figures from the National Statistics Institute show that
inflation has fallen to its lowest level since March 2004. The fall to
2.5% from 2.8% the previous year was explained mainly by a fall in
energy prices.
The 0.4% increase in consumer prices in October is due to rises in the
cost of clothing and footwear and the start of the winter season, plus
the costs relating to the commencement of the new term for the colleges
etc. The Government is obviously pleased with the latest figures which
are good news for the economy in general.
However, the cost of renting a home in Spain has risen over the past
year by 3.8% which is above inflation. Apparently the maintenance costs
of a home rose 5.1% over the same period with the costs of plumbing,
flooring etc having risen and the cost of home insurance is also up by
3.9% since 2005.
